Dr. Gabriel Gonzales is a health program specialist in the Neurodegeneration, Dementia, and Repeat Expansion Disorders and the Repair & Plasticity clusters within the Division of Neuroscience at NINDS. Dr. Gonzales earned his Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, where he studied synaptic changes in the hippocampus following traumatic brain injury (TBI) and pharmaceutical intervention. During his graduate studies, Dr. Gonzales was also involved in a project examining the prion-like characteristics of fused in sarcoma (FUS), a protein known to mutate in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Dr. Gonzales supports portfolios related to ALS, Huntington's Disease, and the Somatic Cell Genome Editing (SCGE) consortium. Dr. Gonzales also has over 23 years of military service and currently serves as the Operations Sergeant Major with the 175th Infantry Regiment of the Maryland Army National Guard.
