Dr. Carlos C. Faraco is a Health Science Administrator in the Division of Clinical Research with a background in human MRI. He received a Psychology M.S. and Neuroscience Ph.D. at the University of Georgia studying the functional and diffusion MRI correlates of working memory in healthy, young adults as well as in older adults with mild cognitive impairment and dementia. As a post-doctoral fellow at the Vanderbilt University Institute of Imaging Science, Carlos’s research revolved around developing quantitative MRI metrics to stratify stroke risk in patients with intracranial-stenosis, assessing post-op revascularization changes to cerebrovascular reactivity in Moyamoya patients, identifying MRI biomarkers to predict dopamine agonist response in Parkinson patients, and understanding the effects of vaso-active gases on the MRI signal. Prior to joining NINDS, Carlos was an AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow (STPF) at the Office of Investigative and Forensic Sciences within the National Institute of Justice. During his Fellowship, he also directed and produced the AAAS Sci on the Fly Podcast and served as co-lead on the Science Diplomacy Affinity Group.

In his spare time, Carlos enjoys playing guitar, motorcycling, bicycling, trail running, and weightlifting.
