Prior to joining NINDS, Dr. Domenichiello received his PhD from the University of Toronto where he studied fatty acid kinetics in the brain. He then began a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institute on Aging studying novel mechanisms of pain and analgesia. As a fellow, he led basic research studies, and supported clinical trials as part of the labs translational effort to understand how dietary fatty acids impact pain. He worked on projects identifying oxidized lipid mediators as prognostic biomarkers of chronic post-traumatic headache, characterizing the oxidized lipid, and transcriptomic, profiles in human and rodent pain circuit tissues, and investigating the physiological impact of novel oxidized lipids on pain and nociception.
