Tuberous Sclerosis Complex

Overview

In 2015, NINDS and the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance sponsored a workshop to assess progress and new opportunities for research in tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) with the goal of updating the 2003 Research Plan for Tuberous Sclerosis. Additional participants included representatives from six other NIH Institutes, the Department of Defense Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Research Program, scientists and clinicians with expertise in TSC, and representatives from the pharmaceutical industry. Premeeting deliberation and workshop sessions focused on progress in the field since the 2003 research plan; gaps, needs, and challenges for TSC research; and new research priorities and recommendations for addressing major challenges in each priority area. The updated research plan is organized around both short-term and long-term goals with the expectation that progress toward specific objectives can be achieved within five to ten years.
