The purpose of this notice is to inform potential applicants of an Informational Webinar on the Summer Research Education Experience Program (R25).

The purpose of this Notice is to alert the community that the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) plans to publish a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) to solicit applications for Creating an Educational Nexus for Training in Experimental Rigor (CENTER), which will build, evaluate, and disseminate a user-friendly, harmonized, and openly accessible educational resource to promote awareness, understanding, and utilization of the principles of rigorous biomedical research. CENTER will provide comprehensive administrative oversight, expertise required to establish and maintain the educational platform, and infrastructure to create cutting-edge digital educational components (e.g. videos, interactive activities, relevant scientific examples). A companion FOA will solicit applications for Materials to Enhance Training in Experimental Rigor (METER) to support subject matter experts to develop content for the educational resource (see related Notice). It is expected that CENTER and METER awardees will work collaboratively to evaluate, improve, and disseminate the educational resource. This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects. The FOA is expected to be published in Summer 2021 with an expected application due date in October 2021. This FOA will utilize the UC2 activity code. Details of the planned FOA are provided below.

These materials will enable acquisition of knowledge and skills to recognize and conduct rigorous experimental research. A companion FOA will solicit applications for Creating an Educational Nexus for Training in Experimental Rigor (CENTER) to build the final web-based platform and produce the digital elements (e.g. videos, graphics, and interactive components) of the online resource (see related Notice). It is expected that METER and CENTER awardees will work collaboratively to evaluate, improve, and disseminate the educational resource. Change of application types allowed for BRAIN Initiative: Team-Research BRAIN Circuit Programs TeamBCP, RFA-NS-19-002 (U19 Clinical Trial Required) and RFA-NS-19-003 (U19 Clinical Trial Not Allowed). Effective immediately, this Notice allows Type 2, renewal applications for the remaining receipt date on October 29, 2021 by 5:PM local time of the applicant organization. Acceptance of new Type 1 applications remains unchanged.

This webinar will take you through the process of putting together an application for the NIH Blueprint and BRAIN Initiative Diversity Specialized Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Advancement in Neuroscience (D-SPAN) Award for RFA-NS-21-012. The webinar will go through each part of the application, including eligibility, specific aims and research strategy, sponsor and co-sponsor information, letters of reference and support, and other documents. Participation in the webinar, although encouraged, is optional and is not required for application submission.

The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), the National Institute on Aging (NIA), and the National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) are requesting information to guide a National Institutes of Health (NIH) effort, in partnership with the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH) and the Rene Fleming Foundation, on Developing Evidence-Based Music Therapies for Brain Disorders of Aging. The project aims to develop, validate, and disseminate a toolkit for music-based intervention protocols that researchers will be encouraged to use in NIH-funded interventional studies.

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) announces the early termination of RFA-NS-21-016, HEAL Initiative: Planning Studies for Initial Analgesic Development Initial Translational Efforts [Small Molecules and Biologics] (R34 Clinical Trial Not Allowed).

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to encourage investigators to pursue translational activities and small clinical studies to advance the development of therapeutic, and diagnostic devices for disorders that affect the nervous or neuromuscular systems. Activities supported in this program include implementation of clinical prototype devices, non-clinical safety and efficacy testing, design verification and validation activities, obtaining an Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) for a Significant Risk (SR) study or Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval for a Non-Significant Risk (NSR) study, as well as a subsequent small clinical study. The clinical study is expected to provide information about the device function or final design that cannot be practically obtained through additional non-clinical assessments (e.g., bench top or animal studies) due to the novelty of the device or its intended use. This FOA is a milestone-driven cooperative agreement program and will involve participation of NIH program staff in negotiating the final project plan before award and monitoring of research progress.

The NIH Blueprint for Neuroscience Research, with participating NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs), intends to promote the new Blueprint MedTech program by publishing a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA). The FOA is expected to be published in Summer 2021 with an expected application due date in Fall 2021. This FOA will utilize the U18 activity code. This FOA will support development of human-grade medical device prototypes. Leveraging resources from the BP MedTech program, projects will complete product definition and development (e.g., needs assessment, product design, prototype development, and bench testing). The end goal is to prepare for first-in-human testing via other FOAs within the BP MedTech program. Details of the planned program are provided below. This Notice is being provided for informational purposes to allow potential applicants additional time to develop responsive applications and meaningful collaborations. NIH reserves the right to modify the scope and objectives as described in this Notice. Final scope, objectives, and requirements will be set forth in the published FOAs.
