The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has selected 10 recipients of the NIH Institutional Excellence in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) in Biomedical and Behavioral Research Prize. Among the awardees—each receiving $100,000—is the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras (UPR-RP) in recognition of their Neuroscience Research Opportunities to Increase Diversity (NeuroID) program.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is committed to advancing research on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). There is currently no cure for ALS although FDA-approved drugs are available to treat ALS symptoms or slow ALS progression.

NINDS is mourning the death of Dr. Ralph Sacco, renowned stroke neurologist who enriched NINDS as a grantee, mentor, and member of the NINDS Advisory Council. Dr. Sacco passed away on January 17, 2023, due to a brain tumor. He was 65.

Today NIH Acting Director Dr. Lawrence Tabak announced the selection of Nina F. Schor, M.D., Ph.D., as the new NIH Acting Deputy Director for Intramural Research (DDIR). She will replace Michael M. Gottesman, M.D., who served as NIH DDIR for the past 29 years.
