Biomedical research is becoming more data-intensive as researchers are generating and using increasingly large, complex, and diverse data sets. This era of "Big Data" taxes the ability of biomedical researchers to locate, analyze, and interact with these data (and more generally all biomedical data) and associated software due to the lack of tools, accessibility, and training. In response to these new challenges in biomedical research, NIH has developed the Big Data to Knowledge (BD2K) Initiative. Under this FOA, BD2K Centers of Excellence are sought to conduct research to advance the science and utility of Big Data in the context of biomedical and behavioral research, and to create innovative new approaches, methods, software, tools, and related resources. The Centers will advance the ability of the biomedical research enterprise to use Big Data by producing tools and resources from early-stage to mature development that will be broadly useful to the research community.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to provide a vehicle for submitting grant applications to conduct multi-site, randomized, controlled, Phase 3 clinical trials to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). The trials may address questions within the mission and research interests of the NINDS. The National Library of Medicine, in conjunction with NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs) named above, announces an Administrative Supplement opportunity available to eligible NIH awardees with active R01 grants and, in some cases, with active P01, P20, P30, P50, R21, R21/R33, R24, R34, U01, U19, U24, U54 and UM1 grants (see details above in the Activity Code Section). These administrative supplements provide funds to supported research and center grants in order to enhance the storage, organization, management and use of electronic research data through the involvement of informationists, also known as in-context information specialists.

This initiative will provide an opportunity for investigators to obtain the resources needed to format and align their data prior to uploading or federating with the FITBIR Informatics System.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to publicize the re-competition of Senator Paul D. Wellstone Muscular Dystrophy Cooperative Research Centers (MDCRCs). These Centers promote collaborative basic, translational and clinical research and provide important resources that can be used by the national muscular dystrophy research communities. The centers also provide an outstanding environment for the training and career development of new scientists electing to pursue careers conducting research in high priority areas of muscular dystrophy. Center investigators are expected to participate in important community outreach and education efforts to increase awareness and convey the importance and implications of their research activities to the general public.

The purpose of the Clinical Trial Methods in Clinical Neurological Disorders Course" Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to increase the reliability and effectiveness of clinical trials and to enhance the training of investigators new to clinical trials.

The purpose of the FOA is to invite applications for mentoring and professional activities to advance the careers and neuroscience development of diverse neuroscience researchers. The goal of the NINDS Neuroscience Development for Advancing the Careers of a Diverse Research Workforce (NDACDRW) is to support mission relevant development and/or implementation of programs to: (1) increase the pool of Ph.D.-level research scientists from diverse backgrounds underrepresented in biomedical research who are neuroscience researchers- participation is limited to graduate, post-doctoral and/or junior-faculty career levels only; and (2) facilitate career advancement/transition of the participants to the next step of their neuroscience careers. NINDS support for R25 program relies equally on scientific merit and programmatic considerations. Consequently, we recommend that potential applicants contact program officials at NINDS before preparing an application. NINDS will not support projects if they do not fulfill current programmatic priorities at NINDS.

Research projects must address the research priorities related to the regulatory authority of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) as mandated by the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (FSPTCA), Public Law 111-31. The awards under this FOA will be administered by NIH using designated funds from the FDA CTP for tobacco regulatory science. Research results from this FOA are expected to generate findings and data that are directly relevant to inform the FDA's regulation of the manufacture, distribution, and marketing of tobacco products to protect public health.
