The Systems and Cognitive Neuroscience cluster will host a webinar on two NINDS and NIH HEAL pain basic science funding announcements, with the Program Director, Michael Oshinsky, PhD.

This webinar will provide an overview of the Discovery and Validation of Novel Targets for Safe and Effective Pain Treatment RFA-NS-18-043 (R01), RFA-NS-18-042 (R21) with general guidance for applications that are part of the NIH HEAL (Helping to End Addiction Long-Term) Initiative.

The focus of these funding announcements is the basic science discovery of targets in the peripheral nervous system, central nervous system, immune system or other tissues in the body that can be used to develop pain treatments (small molecules, biologics or devices) that have minimal side effects and little to no abuse/addiction liability. Research supported by this RFA must include rigorous validation studies to demonstrate the robustness of the target as a pain treatment target. Basic science studies of pain and related systems in the body are encouraged in the context of novel pain therapeutic target discovery.

Panelist Information: Michael Oshinsky, Program Director in Systems and Cognitive Neuroscience Cluster at the National Institute of Neurological Diseases and Stroke (NINDS) at the National Institutes of Health
