Perspectives on the complexities of improving neuroethics engagement among writers, neuroethicists, and scientists in academia and industry

Neuroethics – a growing field that studies the ethical, legal, and societal implications of neuroscience – is an essential partner to neuroscience. It can serve to anticipate and address ethical questions raised in and by research, and flourishes with active collaboration and integration with neuroscience.

The goal of this session is to hold a meaningful discussion on promoting neuroethics engagement in neuroscience from interdisciplinary perspectives. This interactive session is part of the 2021 BRAIN Initiative Investigators meeting (although outside of formal programming), and will feature an introduction on neuroethics engagement by Dr. Kafui Dzirasa from Duke University. Attendees will then each be assigned to interdisciplinary small-group discussions. These rooms will be divided into 3 areas of focus based on the moderator’s area of expertise: neuroethicists, science communication experts, and neuroscientists from academia and industry. Finally, the groups will reconvene and report-out key takeaways from their small-group discussions.

This session will run from 12:30-2pm ET on June 14th, 2021. Registration will be capped at 60 attendees, and pre-registration is required for this session by Thursday, June 10th at 2pm ET.

Anyone interested in the topic of neuroethics is invited to attend, and all career stages are welcome. All attendees of this session will also need to be registered for the official 2021 BRAIN Initiative Investigators Meeting.
