BRAIN Initiative: New Concepts and Early-Stage Research for Recording and Modulation in the Nervous System (R21) (Clinical Trial Not Allowed)
Expiration Date: Martes, Junio 16, 2026
NOFO Number: RFA-EY-23-001
Martes, Septiembre 19, 2023
Notice Type: RFA
This FOA seeks applications for unique and innovative recording and/or modulation technologies that are in the earliest stage of development, including new and untested ideas that are in the initial stages of conceptualization. Some projects may aim to increase recording or modulation capabilities by many orders of magnitude, while others may aim to improve the precision and selectivity of recording or modulation (also referred to as stimulation, perturbation, or manipulation). A wide range of modalities are appropriate including acoustic, chemical, electrical, magnetic, and optical, as well as the use of genetic tools. Invasive or non-invasive approaches are sought that will enable large-scale recording and/or precise manipulation of neural activity, and that would ultimately be compatible with experiments in humans or behaving animals. Applications are encouraged from any qualified individual, including chemists, physicists, engineers, theoreticians, materials scientists, and others from fields not typically involved with neuroscience research. This FOA requires a Plan for Enhancing Diverse Perspectives (PEDP), which will be assessed as part of the scientific and technical peer review evaluation. Applications that fail to include a PEDP will be considered incomplete and will be withdrawn.
Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Research Supplements to Promote Re-Entry, Re-integration into, and Re-training in Health-Related Research Careers (Admin Supp - Clinical Trial Not Allowed)
Expiration Date: Viernes, Octubre 9, 2026
NOFO Number: NOT-OD-23-170
Miércoles, Septiembre 6, 2023
Notice Type: Notice of Special Interest
The goal of this program is to provide support for a mentored research training experience for individuals with high potential to re-enter, re-integrate into, or re-train in an active research career, after an interruption for family responsibilities or other qualifying circumstances as described below. This program encourages re-entry, re-integration, and re-training administrative supplement applications to existing NIH research grants to support full or part-time mentored research experiences by these individuals. The supplement grants are intended to provide these scientists an opportunity to update or extend their research skills and knowledge and prepare them to re-establish or revitalize their careers in basic biomedical, behavioral, clinical, translational, or social science research. It is anticipated that by the completion of the supplement support period, the re-entry/re-integration/re-training supplement awardee will be prepared to apply for a fellowship (F), career development (K) award, a research award (R), SBIR/STTR, or other types of independent research support.
Early-stage Biomedical Data Repositories and Knowledgebases (R24 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)
Expiration Date: Lunes, Enero 26, 2026
NOFO Number: PAR-23-236
Miércoles, Agosto 30, 2023
Notice Type: PAR
This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) supports the development of early-stage or new data repositories and knowledgebases as distinct and separate resources that could be valuable for the biomedical research community.
Enhancement and Management of Established Biomedical Data Repositories and Knowledgebases (U24 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)
Expiration Date: Lunes, Enero 26, 2026
NOFO Number: PAR-23-237
Miércoles, Agosto 30, 2023
Notice Type: PAR
The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to support established biomedical data resources, that have demonstrated impact and have potential for continued benefit to the mission of one or more of the NIH Institutes and Centers participating in this announcement. Each application must: (a) deliver scientific impact to the communities served; (b) employ and promote good data management practices (as outlined by the FAIR Data Principles including adherence to the NIH desirable characteristics of repositories) and efficient operations for quality and services; (c) engage with the user community and continuously address their needs; and (d) support a process for data life-cycle analysis, long-term preservation, and trustworthy governance. The evaluation of the repositories will be based on their usage, utility, impact, quality of data and services, and efficiency of operations, community needs and engagement, trustworthiness of stewardship, and governance.
Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Small Business Initiatives for Innovative tools and Technologies for Improving Outcomes for Maternal Health

The purpose of this Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies (BRAIN) Initiative is to encourage applications that will develop and validate novel tools to facilitate the detailed analysis of complex circuits and provide insights into cellular interactions that underlie brain function. The new tools and technologies should inform and/or exploit cell-type and/or circuit-level specificity. Plans for validating the utility of the tool/technology will be an essential feature of a successful application. The development of new genetic and non-genetic tools for delivering genes, proteins and chemicals to cells of interest or approaches that are expected to target specific cell types and/or circuits in the nervous system with greater precision and sensitivity than currently established methods are encouraged. Tools that can be used in a number of species/model organisms rather than those restricted to a single species are highly desired. Applications that provide approaches that break through existing technical barriers to substantially improve current capabilities are highly encouraged.
