Dr. Casaccia has built a lab culture defined by a commitment to scientific rigor centered around deep discussions about experimental design and validity with her trainees. The combination of a rigorous research culture and ample trainee opportunities for professional growth has enabled Dr. Casccia’s mentees to flourish as scientists. Her mentees described how she supported them not only as developing scientists, but as people, especially during challenging life situations, fostering both their professional and personal growth and resiliency. Dr. Casaccia’s mentoring efforts extend beyond her lab where she has been a champion for excellence in mentorship at the institutional level through her dedicated service at CUNY, including on a taskforce that emphasized the inclusion of mentorship as a modality in faculty evaluation.
