Dr. Ferris’ mentorship and long-term commitment to his trainees' success has had a vast and transformative impact across the entire spectrum of neuroscience trainees, from middle school students in summer camp all the way to junior faculty. Letters from his mentees highlighted the myriad ways in which he supported individuals’ specific career goals and interests, often by encouraging them to pursue internships or other scientific experiences. Dr. Ferris has contributed extensively to excellence in research training through his service roles on institutional training grants and as a Graduate Program Director. As the Graduate Program Chair at University of Michigan, his leadership impacted broader research training through a substantial increase in graduate student enrollment and secured funding for all graduate positions.
