Luis joins the Movement Disorders and Neurodegeneration cluster at NINDS as a former postdoctoral fellow at NIMH, and a former graduate student at HHMI where he earned his Ph.D. in neuroscience. As a graduate student, he worked with Chris Doe to study how small pools of neural stem cells give rise to cell-type diversity and neural circuits. During his postdoc at NIMH in the laboratory of Ben White, he studied the neural basis of behavior and how coordinated motor patterns change to meet new behavioral demands at adulthood. Beyond his work in fundamental neuroscience, Luis has organized many community building and scientific symposium events, including as an IRP fellow at NIMH.
