The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) is seeking a Health Scientist Administrator (Program Director) in the Neural Environment Cluster. The successful candidate will manage/co-manage a portfolio of research grants, cooperative agreements and/or contractors to support this area of neuroscience research. S/he will oversee extramural activities in cellular mechanisms of stroke and cerebrovascular biology. The successful candidate will also work with program staff to strengthen programs in the basic, translational and clinical research in this area.
The NINDS is a leading supporter of biomedical research on disorders of the brain and the nervous system at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). NINDS provides funding and resources for basic, translational and clinical research through various funding opportunities within the three Divisions of Neuroscience, Clinical Research and Translational Research.
Located within the Division of Neuroscience, the Neural Environment (NET) Cluster provides oversight of grants focused on basic neuroimmunology, neurovirology, neural vascular biology, and the blood brain barrier as well as on basic, translational and clinical research on stroke, multiple sclerosis, CNS and PNS tumors, neuro-AIDS, prion diseases, and CNS infections. Program Directors in the NET Cluster work closely with colleagues in other NINDS Divisions and NIH Institutes to provide oversight and expertise on grants and contracts relevant to the research focus of the Cluster.
Qualifications: NINDS is seeking a candidate with expertise in research towards understanding stroke or cerebrovascular biology. Applicants must demonstrate that they have worked independently in planning, organizing, and conducting biomedical behavioral health, or health-related research and/or served effectively in research program administration in these fields. Candidates with a doctoral degree and post-doctoral training is strongly preferred.
The position will be filled under a Title 5 GS-601-13/14 or GS-15 appointment. Salary is commensurate with the experience and a full package of Civil Service benefits is available, including retirement, health and life insurance, leave, and savings plan (401K equivalent).
