There is still time to register for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Helping to End Addiction Long-term (HEAL) Initiative, Workshop on Achieving Health Equity.

The NIH HEAL Initiative will recruit participants for approximately 30 clinical studies across the United States.  This offers an unprecedented opportunity to advance health equity in pain management and opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment through recruitment, retention and inclusion of diverse populations in clinical research, and to ensure generalizability and external validity of research outcomes.   To move towards the goal of advancing health equity, the NIH HEAL Initiative is sponsoring a workshop on Feb. 1, 2-4:30pm, to highlight successful strategies for increasing diversity and inclusion that could be implemented in HEAL clinical studies.

The workshop will feature experts in clinical pain and OUD research, engagement and recruitment science, and patient-centered outcomes research, as well as chronic pain patients. Participants will discuss factors that facilitate or deter clinical research participation, and highlight innovative strategies to increase recruitment, retention and inclusion of racial/ethnic minorities and other populations that experience health disparities in HEAL clinical studies.
