NINDS Interest in Pain Research

Recognizing the urgent need to understand the basic science aspect of pathological pain to improve its management, Fiscal Year 2022 budgets from the President, House, and Senate each include proposals to increase funding for pain research that fits within NINDS’ mission. The following Notices of Special Interest (NOSIs) are posted in the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts and succinctly highlight specific topics of interest related to pain research that fits within our institute’s mission. These notices are intended to direct interested applicants to one or more active funding opportunity announcements for submission of applications for the initiative(s) described below. Pain-Focused Administrative Supplements for NINDS Grants that are Not Focused on Pain Research NOT-NS-22-053 The purpose of this NOSI is to encourage applications that expand existing NINDS awards that are not currently focused on pain research - to allow the research to develop such a focus. Active awards with project end dates in FY 2023 or later are eligible. The goal of the supplement should be to add a pain component to the parent project, where a significant pain component doesn’t exist. As administrative supplements, the work proposed needs to be within the scope of the researcher training that is already supported. Awards that currently focus on pain research are not eligible for this program.
