Dr. Jaffrey’s lab played a pivotal role in establishing epitranscriptomics – that is, the study of the role and function of mRNA base modifications. The lab also studies the localization of RNAs in cells, and how this process is dysregulated in diverse diseases. The goal of this project is to further identify the role of epitranscriptomic regulation of mRNA expression in the brain, the role of RNA-directed epigenetic silencing in fragile X syndrome, and to develop new technologies to image and manipulate synaptic mRNA.
