The goal of the Casaccia lab is to understand the signals that drive progenitor cells to differentiate into myelinating glia, because this fundamental knowledge can inform the design of regenerative strategies. The proposed studies will examine how progenitors interpret specific metabolic signals, as well as how they respond to mechanical forces and neuronal activity to regulate brain function. This research has the potential to expand our knowledge of brain development and myelin formation.
