Dr. Dasen’s research examines the developmental programs that direct the assembly of motor circuits, as the mechanisms through which neurons are incorporated into a particular motor circuit remain poorly defined. Here, he aims to elucidate the mechanisms of neural diversification and connectivity within the spinal cord, and to determine the genetic programs that establish circuit architectures necessary for motor control. The project will leverage a variety of approaches, including genetic manipulation, circuit tracing, and both comparative and behavioral analyses. Defining the genetic pathways controlling neuronal diversification and connectivity will provide important insights to the study of diseases and injuries that affect spinal motor circuit function.
