Dr. Anton examines the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying radial progenitor development, neuronal migration, and neuronal connectivity in the mammalian cerebral cortex. Here, he will focus on the dynamic maintenance of balance between radial and intermediate progenitors, which are vital for producing the right number and types of cortical neurons during development. Using a multitude of approaches, he will investigate how this balance is achieved and the mechanisms that guide the growth and connectivity of newly generated neurons. In doing so, this work will provide a framework to establish how changes in these processes can lead to neurodevelopmental disorders and brain malformations
