Dr. Zaman Mirzadeh is a neurosurgeon in the Department of Neurosurgery at Barrow Neurological Institute. Dr. Mirzadeh’s clinical expertise includes functional neurosurgery, surgical management of facial pain and chronic neuropathic pain, neuromodulation for chronic pain, and neuroablative techniques for cancer pain management. Dr. Mirzadeh’s laboratory focuses on understanding central nervous system (CNS) control of glucose homeostasis and energy balance states (including a model for a dysfunctional state, Type 2 diabetes), as well as and pain modulation in the spinal cord dorsal horn. He utilizes electrophysiology and other modern methods to understand the interactions of neural plasticity in the CNS with downstream metabolism processes.

After receiving his undergraduate degree at Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Mirzadeh attended the University of California at San Francisco for both his M.D. and Ph.D. in Stem Cell Biology, trained at Barrow Neurological Institute for his residency, and completed two fellowships, one in functional neurosurgery at Toronto Western Hospital and another in advanced pain at the Baylor College of Medicine MD Anderson Cancer Center.
