Dr. Brian Dlouhy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics and Stead Family Children's Hospital. His clinical expertise include the treatment of Chiari, complex Chiari, disorders of the craniovertebral junction (CVJ), and pediatric epilepsy. He uses endoscopic and minimally invasive techniques in the treatment of all neurosurgical disorders in children and adults. In addition to his clinical activities, Dr. Dlouhy focuses his research on basic and translational applications to study epilepsy, sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP), and development of human brain function. The goal of this work is to develop innovative treatment strategies for epilepsy, prevention of SUDEP, and treatment of all types of brain injury including TBI and stroke.

After receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida, Dr. Dlouhy completed his M.D. at New York University School of Medicine. Dr. Dlouhy conducted his neurosurgery residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where he also completed a clinical and research fellowship in pediatric and adult epilepsy. After finishing his residency, he completed an endoscopic and minimally invasive fellowship in Sydney, Australia followed by a pediatric neurosurgery fellowship at St Louis Children’s Hospital and Washington University in St. Louis.
