Dr. Peter Crino’s research program focuses on defining developmental brain disorders, specifically those associated with aberrant mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling. Recently, Dr. Crino's lab identified new mutations in mTOR pathway genes (MPGs) that are associated with a clinical syndrome characterized by megalencephaly (a condition characterized by overdeveloped brain size), intellectual disability, autism, and severe epilepsy. For this project, he will use lab-developed novel MPG mouse models to further expand our knowledge on the role of the MPGs in epilepsy and other neurological disorders in children and adults.
