Dr. Shamsi Raeissi is a Scientific Project Manager in the Office of Translational Research at NINDS where she works on the discovery and development of effective therapies for the treatment of seizures and epilepsy in the Epilepsy Therapy Screening Program (ETSP). Dr. Raeissi has extensive drug discovery and development experience gained through over 17 years of working with BioFocus, Bayer Health Care, Pfizer, Pharmacia, and Rhone-Poulenc Rorer. Prior to joining NINDS, Dr. Raeissi managed 3 major programs at Rutgers covering 40 projects from Proof-of-Concept through Phase II Clinical Trials. She worked with a diverse array of scientific partners – biomedical device companies, academic institutions, and research hospitals (e.g., Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic) to develop novel regenerative medicine technologies and therapies . Her responsibilities were to manage team budgets, assess scientific progress of projects and evaluate new technologies for partnership and commercialization. Dr. Raeissi obtained a B.S. in biochemistry and an M.S in pharmaceutical chemistry from the University of Kansas as well as a Ph.D. in pharmaceutics from the University of Uppsala, Sweden.
