Dr. Marilyn Moore-Hoon serves as the Scientific Review Officer (SRO) for various Special Emphasis Panels including the NINDS Program Project Awards (R35), BRAIN U24’s, and several initiatives from the NIH HEAL Initiative, including for Other Transactions Authority reviews.


Dr. Marilyn Moore-Hoon joined NINDS in 2018 and serves as a Scientific Review Officer (SRO) for various Special Emphasis Panels including the NINDS Program Project Awards (R35), BRAIN U24’s, and several initiatives from the NIH HEAL Initiative, including for Other Transactions Authority reviews. Beginning in the Spring of 2020 she will be managing the review of the UDALL Center grants. These diverse initiatives draw grant applications across the spectrum of NINDS related research, including most recently clinical research, pain, pain therapeutics, and Parkinson’s Disease. She received her undergraduate and Master’s degrees in Chemistry at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology Cum Laud and her PhD (Dr. Nat. Sci) in Molecular Biology at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. Following her doctorate in 1993, Marilyn joined the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) as a Research Fellow and later as a Staff Biologist and in 2008 moved to the NIDCR extramural program as a Scientific Review Officer. Marilyn’s scientific expertise is in the basic biology and biophysics of solute transport across cell membranes, specifically with the solute carrier (SLC) family of transporters. When not at work, Marilyn likes to ski, hike, and rock climb.
