Jennifer Beierlein is a Health Program Specialist in the Division of Clinical Research. Prior to joining NINDS, Jen was a 2017-2019 AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the National Science Foundation in the Directorate of Engineering. Her professional training is in drug discovery and development, receiving her B.S. in Biochemistry from Russell Sage College in 2006. In 2011, Jen completed her Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Connecticut, where she studied targeted design of antibiotics against the enzyme, dihydrofolate reductase. She then went on to Brandeis University as a postdoctoral fellow in the Biochemistry Department, studying yeast models of neurodegenerative diseases. Prior to her AAAS fellowship, she was at Bentley University studying scientific and business factors affecting drug discovery and development and served as an adjunct professor. These roles have cemented her passion for supporting biomedical research and policies that advance the innovation and translation of science.

 In her spare time, she enjoys serving in a leadership role for a Scientists With Improv Skills interest group, balcony gardening, and following her favorite sports teams.
