Health Program Specialist, NGEN Cluster

NINDS is seeking a Health Program Specialist (HPS) to support extramural research activities in the Neurogenetics (NGEN) Cluster within the Division of Neuroscience (DON).  The successful candidate will work with Program Directors to provide scientific expertise and support in the management, planning, coordination, evaluation and communication of the programs and initiatives within the field of neurogenetics.  This includes genetics and genomics of normal neural development and neurological diseases; basic, translational and clinical research in rare neurological, neurodevelopmental and neuromuscular disorders; gene expression, proteomics, and metabolomics studies, gene therapy and gene delivery studies; the molecular basis of neurodevelopment including neurogenesis and cell fate determination, cell migration, dendritic growth and plasticity, axonal guidance and neurotrophic signaling; and glia biology studies.  The HPS will provide administrative, scientific and technical support in managing the cluster’s portfolios to ensure that cluster tasks relevant to the scientific administration of assigned grants are performed accurately and in a timely fashion. The HPS will also have key roles in planning and implementing workshops, conferences, and other scientific meetings, preparing analytic reports on scientific and/or administrative issues affecting the conduct of research programs, promoting resource and data sharing, and participating in other related efforts. The ideal candidate should demonstrate expertise, experience and/or educational background in neuroscience, strong independent problem‐solving skills, combined with excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

This is a Federal GS-11, GS-12 or GS-13 position located in Montgomery County MD. Level is based upon individual qualifications and professional experience.
