Director, NIH BRAIN Initiative®

Are you a visionary, first-rate scientist seeking to make a national and international impact on the future of Neuroscience? This position offers an exciting and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to serve as the Director of the NIH BRAIN Initiative®. The incumbent will lead a trans- NIH program whose ultimate goal is no less than revolutionizing our understanding of the human brain. The Director will lead the scientific work of the NIH BRAIN Initiative® and work with scientific staff from the ten NIH BRAIN Initiative® Institutes and Centers, other federal agencies, international funding agencies, and academic and commercial partners. S/he will be the spokesperson for this program in interactions across NIH, as well as with other federal agencies, the scientific community, biotech, patient advocacy groups, and other NIH stakeholders.

We are looking for applicants with a commitment to scientific excellence and the energy, enthusiasm, and innovative thinking necessary to lead a large, bold, dynamic, and diverse program. Applicants must possess an M.D. and/or Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in the biomedical sciences and have senior-level research experience and knowledge of neuroscience research programs. This individual should be known and respected within the scientific community, with a distinguished record of research accomplishments. S/he should have demonstrated leadership, organizational skills, and have broad visionary capabilities, with demonstrated ability to navigate successfully within and collaborate across a broad science community. S/he should have experience developing and setting strategic priorities, as well as communicating and promoting scientific advances.

The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary commensurate with experience and accomplishments, and full Federal benefits, including leave, health and life insurance, retirement, and savings plan (401K equivalent) will be provided.
