RE: On-line Registration Open for the 2009 Annual Udall Centers Meeting

The 11th Annual Udall Centers Meeting will be held on September 21-22, 2009 at The Boar's Head Inn, 200 Ednam Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22903, (434) 296-2181, www.boarsheadinn.com. Dr. Jim Bennett and colleagues of the UVA Udall Center will serve as hosts.

Meeting registration: To access the 2009 Udall Meeting Registration page on the PD-DOC website, please go to www.pd-doc.org to create your login username and password. Once your website registration is completed, you will be automatically logged in and able to access a link to the 2009 Udall Meeting Registration Form on the Home page. If you registered last year there is no need to register again, just log in on the PD-DOC website.

Agenda: Please note that the length of the meeting is shortened this year to two full days. A draft Agenda is available on the PD-DOC and NINDS website (http://www.ninds.nih.gov/research/parkinsonsweb/udall_centers/11th_Annual_Udall_Center%20Director_Meeting.htm)

Important change: Udall Center Directors and representatives from Voluntary Organizations should plan to arrive for closed meetings with the NINDS on Monday morning; all other participants should arrive for the open meeting beginning at 1:00pm that day. Udall Directors and Subproject/Core Investigators are strongly encouraged to participate in the Discussion and Planning Sessions scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

Accommodations: Please do not call the hotel directly to book your lodging: PD-DOC staff will provide the hotel with the rooming list for registered participants.

Important: Due to scheduling changes and increased demand, an accurate room count is needed as soon as possible in order to guarantee participant lodging. Please note changes below.

If possible, please register by Monday, July 20th; final registration deadline is Monday, August 3, 2009.

  • Udall Center Directors and Investigators: Due to the successful growth of the Udall Center program, the 2009 meeting will accommodate registration and lodging for up to five participants per Center, including the Center Director. Travel for registered participants to and from the meeting should be paid by the Centers.

Requests to register additional participants for any Center will be dependent upon available space; please contact Beth-Anne Sieber (sieberb@ninds.nih.gov) and cc: Donna LaDonna (donna_ladonna@urmc.rochester.edu) for information.
  • Parkinson's Voluntary Organization representatives must also register for the meeting and will receive the same hotel rate ($169/night plus applicable taxes) as negotiated for the group. You will be responsible for all charges upon check-out.
  • Invited Speakers will have all lodging and travel expenses paid.
  • NIH Staff will receive the government lodging rate ($100/night) plus tax. Please present your NIH ID at check-in. You will be responsible for all charges upon check-out.

Submission of Meeting and Presentation Materials:

Program Book: each Center is asked to provide an update for the annual meeting booklet. This information will also be posted on the NINDS Udall Centers website. This update (~2-3 pages) should briefly summarize background information, and especially highlight select areas for discussion at the 2009 meeting. Please include the following information for each Center:

  • Central theme
  • Brief description of Center structure
  • The Center's 1-3 most recent, significant scientific advances
  • Available resources (animal models, model systems, tissues, DNA, etc)
  • Plans for the coming year
  • Most relevant, recent publications (3-5)
  • Public health statement (~1 paragraph): in lay terms, describe the Center theme, how recent findings have advanced Parkinson's disease research and future directions

Please feel free to highlight other areas of interest to the Centers program, including collaborations within and beyond Udall Centers, community outreach activities, and training and education activities.

Center updates should be e-mailed to Beth-Anne Sieber (sieberb@ninds.nih.gov) and Donna LaDonna (donna_ladonna@urmc.rochester.edu) by Friday, August 7, 2009.

Poster Presentations: because the "Data Blitz" format will be used for the platform Center presentations, the poster session will be extended to two hours. Young investigators are especially encouraged to submit poster abstracts. If you wish to present a poster, please email a Word version of your abstract to Donna LaDonna by Friday, August 14, 2009 (donna_ladonna@urmc.rochester.edu). An email acknowledgement will be sent when an abstract is received. A copy of each abstract submitted will be included in the meeting booklet. Poster boards will be 4' x 6'.
