NINDS Workshop: Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP)

Workshop Objectives

1. Develop a research agenda for SUDEP that includes basic and clinical directions
2. Identify possible preventive strategies for SUDEP
3. Involve experts from other disciplines related to sudden death (cardiac, SIDS, genetic disorders, autonomic dysfunction)
4. Begin to establish a SUDEP research consortium
5. Investigate when, what, how to best discuss SUDEP with patients and caregivers
6. Design methods by which the medical and lay communities become aware of the risk of SUDEP
