NINDS is part of the
National Institutes of
Health
The focus of this committee will be to make recommendations to the full Council on major clinical trials and epidemiology projects (exceeding yearly direct costs above $1 million dollars) that are under consideration for funding and to recommend policies to the Council and the Institute concerning development, review, and execution of such projects. The subcommittee will evaluate and prioritize these studies in the context of the mission and goals of the NINDS and in the context of the Institute's past, current and future research portfolio.
The subcommittee will also evaluate clinical research projects (with proposed costs exceeding $1 million dollars per year) before an application is submitted and provide a recommendation to the NINDS director whether the proposed application should be accepted for scientific review. The objective is to prevent the investigator from investing a large amount time and effort in the application process for an application that would not be supported by the subcommittee for funding.
The committee meets at each of the regular council meetings. The current roster of the committee includes the following NINDS appointed council members: Dr. Donald Easton, Dr. Ira Shoulson, Dr. Patrick Pullicino, Dr. Francisco Gonzalez-Scarano, Dr. John Loeser, Mr. Jeffery Martin, and Mrs. Ellyn Phillips. The chair of the committee is Dr. Donald Easton.
