NINDS requests new and renewal applications for Autism Centers of Excellence: Networks and Centers. This announcement is made together with 4 other NIH components and is supported by 2 funding mechanisms: R01 and P50.
Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are complex neurodevelopmental disorders with early childhood onset. These disorders, for which there is no cure and only limited treatments, generally have lifelong effects. The purpose of this announcement is to encourage research on ASD, and encourages the development of networks and centers. A network consists of multiple sites focusing on a specific topic. Centers bring together expertise, infrastructure and resources focused on major questions about autism. Centers should involve collaborations of basic and clinical scientists to address the research questions posed.
