Specialties: Hemorrhagic stroke, neurodevelopmental hypoxia-ischemia and pediatric stroke, neurovascular biology and pathophysiology, cerebral blood flow, neuroimaging and genetics/epigenetic mechanisms

Dr. Jim Koenig is the Program Director for the Stroke Program in the Neural Environment (NET) cluster.  Current areas of scientific interest include research on hemorrhagic stroke and aneurysm, pediatric/neurodevelopmental hypoxia-ischemic insults, cerebrovascular biology and pathophysiological mechanisms of stroke and recovery, and stroke neuroimaging.  Jim received his Ph.D. at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas.  Prior to joining NINDS he was Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore.
