Caroline Lewis became the NINDS Executive Officer in January 2012. In this capacity, she has operational oversight of NINDS’ financial management, human resources, information technology, and administrative services.
Prior to joining NINDS, Caroline was the deputy chief operating officer of the Food and Drug Administration, where she provided executive direction and oversight of the $3.2 billion budget and 14,000 personnel working to protect the health of the nation’s 300 million consumers. Caroline began her career in public health as a statistician focused on natality studies and then a public health analyst addressing national health professions workforce issues. Since then, she has served in a variety of professional administrative and program leadership positions within HHS, including as Deputy Associate Administrator for Clinical Recruitment and Service at HRSA and HRSA’s Director of the Office of Management,
Throughout her career, Caroline has used her experience in strategic and business planning, budget development, financial management, business process re-engineering, information technology, acquisitions, and workforce management to lead organizational transformations.
Caroline received her undergraduate degree at Duke University and her masters at Georgetown University.
